本套专辑是为庆祝2019年美国钢琴家艾克斯70岁生日,同时也作为他与华裔大提琴家马友友将近50年友谊之纪念,而特别发行。专辑共21张CD,完整收录两人合作的大提琴与钢琴作品,包含以钢琴伴奏的大提琴奏鸣曲,以及两人与史坦(Isaac Stern)、帕尔曼(Itzhak Perlman)、史托兹曼(Richard Stoltzman)等人合作之三重奏、四重奏、五重奏。
马友友(Yo-Yo Ma)与艾克斯(Emanuel Ax)的完美合作被誉为当今世界古典音乐界的最佳搭档。两人在茱利亚音乐院求学时期就已经熟识,至今将近五十年。在音乐旅程上一直是互相支持的最佳伙伴。
最初艾克斯是在学校的练琴室担任马友友的钢琴伴奏,很快便成为好朋友。求学阶段,两人便经常合作演出室内乐。成名之后的马友友在美国和世界各地旅行演出时,除了独奏,最常合奏的搭档就是艾克斯。两人完美的合作默契,完全来自多年深厚的友谊。艾克斯便表示他音乐生涯中最幸运的一件事便是能够与马友友合作。
两人合作演出的录音曾经数度获奖,包括1985年、1986年获得葛莱美奖肯定的勃拉姆斯大提琴奏鸣曲和贝多芬专辑。而多张专辑也得到日本唱片艺术杂志的肯定。
Stereo Review评论他们合作的舒伯特《鳟鱼五重奏》与《阿贝鸠奈奏鸣曲》录音,表示:「这张由钢琴家艾克斯、大提琴家马友友与好友们所带来的新录音让人耳目一新,揉合室内乐与歌曲般的抒情,彷佛重现当年舒伯特与好友在维也纳的薄暮所举办的家庭音乐会一般」。留声机杂志评论其莫扎特《钢琴四重奏全集》:「此一巨星级的组合呈现了充满想象力和洞察力的演出,他们的速度控制非常的完美,而其演奏则始终传达出一种快乐而自发的感受」。
David Hurwitz在亚马逊网站必藏录音推荐其合作的拉赫曼尼诺夫、普罗高菲夫《大提琴奏鸣曲》录音:「拉赫曼尼诺夫的大提琴奏鸣曲中…两人都表现伟大演出所必要的那种艺术上的互动,而不致过度耽溺在音乐中。普罗高菲夫奏鸣曲…是份量较轻的作品,但两人的演奏也毫不逊色…」。

艺术家简介:
Emanuel Ax(出生于1949年6月8日)荣获格莱美奖的美国古典音乐钢琴家。他是国际上知名的表演者,也是茱莉亚音乐学院的教师。
马友友,1955年10月7日出生于法国巴黎,祖籍浙江鄞县(今宁波市鄞州区)。大提琴演奏者,毕业于哈佛大学、茱莉亚音乐学院。
